• 1 large apple
• 4 tablespoons butter, divided
• 2 tablespoons sugar, divided
• ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
• ½ cup whole milk
• 2 extra large eggs
• ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
• ½ cup all-purpose flour
• ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
• Confectioners’ sugar, for dusting
• Pure maple syrup, for serving
Directions
- Preheat oven to 425°F.
- Peel, core, and slice the apple into thin slices (about ? inch thick).
- In a 9-inch ovenproof skillet, melt 3 tablespoons butter over medium-high heat. Add the apple, 1 tablespoon sugar, and cinnamon. Cook 5–7 minutes until tender. Spread evenly in the skillet and keep warm over low heat.
- Melt the remaining tablespoon of butter. In a medium bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, butter, and vanilla. In a separate bowl, combine flour, 1 tablespoon sugar, and salt. Gradually whisk the dry ingredients into the wet until smooth.
- Pour batter over the apples and transfer skillet to the oven.
- Bake 12–15 minutes until puffed and golden at the edges.
- Dust with confectioners’ sugar and serve with warm maple syrup.
