Community Supported Agriculture (CSA): Fresh Food, Strong Farms, Connected Communities
Local CSA sign-ups are open across the Upper Hudson and Lower Mohawk region. Join a Harvest Connection farm and enjoy fresh, seasonal food while supporting local agriculture.
Community Supported Agriculture—often called a CSA—is one of the most direct and meaningful ways to support local farms while enjoying fresh, seasonal food. As the growing season approaches, many Harvest Connection farms are opening sign-ups for CSA subscriptions, inviting community members to share in the harvest for the months ahead.
What Is a CSA?
A CSA is a partnership between a farm and its community. Members purchase a subscription, usually before the season begins, and in return receive a regular share of the farm’s harvest throughout the growing season. Shares may include vegetables, fruits, herbs, meat, eggs, dairy, flowers, maple products, or other farm goods, depending on the farm.
By signing up early, members help farmers cover upfront costs like seeds, equipment, and labor—making it possible for farms to plan confidently for the season ahead.
Why Join a CSA?
Joining a CSA offers benefits that go far beyond the food on your table:
- Ultra-fresh, seasonal food harvested at peak flavor and nutrition
- Direct connection to local farmers and the land they steward
- Stronger local food systems that keep dollars circulating in our region
- Shared risk and shared reward, supporting farms through the ups and downs of farming
- Inspiration to cook seasonally and try new foods
Many members say their CSA share becomes a weekly reminder of the seasons—and a deeper connection to where their food comes from.
What Does a CSA Share Look Like?
CSA shares vary by farm and by season. Some farms offer:
- Weekly or biweekly vegetable shares
- Full-season, half-season, or flexible options
- Pick-up at the farm, farmers markets, or neighborhood sites
- Add-ons such as eggs, bread, meat, flowers, or maple products
- Payment plans or sliding-scale options to improve access
Whether you’re cooking for one person or a full household, there’s often a CSA option that fits your needs.

If you’re new to the CSA model, don’t hesitate to reach out to farms with questions. Farmers are often happy to explain what’s included, how pick-up works, and how to make the most of your share.
A CSA is more than a food subscription—it’s a relationship. This season, consider joining a local farm and becoming part of a community that grows together.
